It was a great day for golf yesterday, and it was a great day for the gritty grinders of Currie Park. We placed second in the event, just 2 points behind Oakwood, but more importantly, we finished ahead of both Greenfield and Brown Deer to win the season for our 13th title in the last 18 years. We finished with 645 points on the season, Greenfield was second with 611, and Brown Deer was third with 590.
The golf course played tough and long, as the greens were slick, lots of wormholes and mud filled the fairways, and the balls didn’t roll out much. But our guys toughed it out and brought the trophy back to the National. You can see it in the attached picture sent by Director Patrick, along with your humble captain and our point leader for the season. We will get one more “Currie” engraved on the base, and then it will go back to our clubhouse, where it belongs.
Our point leaders yesterday were Phil Levin and Mark Cuthbert with all 18. Dominic Carini scored 17, John Hirsch 13, Pete Tarantino 12, and Mike (please put me in) O’Neil and Steve Jaeger 11 each. That’s 7 guys in double figures, a solid overall performance. O’Neil was our medalist with a fine 75. Levin shot an impressive 78.
Our point leader for the season was, drumroll please, Jim Sauceda. Jim took 68 points, an average of 13.6 over all 5 matches. Tarantino picked up 60 points, Cuthbert 59, and Jaeger 57.
Nineteen members competed in the matches this season and 12 of them averaged 10 or more points. Sixteen averaged 9 or more. Thanks to all who played and to all who supported the team.
Thanks also to Director Patrick Garvins for all he does all season. He indicated yesterday that he plans to keep the job for at least one more year, which is a very good thing. Also, congrats to Patrick for his hole in one on the 7th yesterday, his third hole in one this season! Incredible!
The usual summaries are listed below. If you wondered why you didn’t see many event flags, it’s because they were sent out late and only to the back nine.
If you played yesterday, remember to post your own score. If you forgot, as I did, post it now and accept the little reprimand from GHIN for being late.
