MCPLA Second Team at Whitnall Park Golf Course - Results

Gentlemen –

We had a decent start to our Second Team season today out at Whitnall. We took 121 points finishing in second place to Oakwood who grabbed 144. Whitnall finished 14 points behind us in third, and defending champ Greenfield finished 4th, 15 points behind us.

The course played long, the rough was brutal, and high scores were abundant. Our point leaders were Gerry McGrath with the maximum, 18, and Brian Pederson and Steve Jaeger with 16 each. Jeff Camosy picked up 13, but he left stating he had 10, math obviously not his strong point. Outgoing Director Pederson was our medalist with a fine 80 in the tough conditions. Jaeger shot 84, McGrath 85, Phil Levin 86, and everyone else was 90 or higher. McGrath took longest putt on 11, Jaeger took a skin on 4, and Pederson took skins on 6 and 8.

The golf course was in fine shape, and the tournament was handled flawlessly by James Grogan, the head pro and his staff. Many thanks to them and to Director Pederson as he embarks on his farewell tour.

The next match is at Dretzka on Saturday, June 18th. I’ll be recruiting a team in a week or so. If you think you can do well there, let me know.

The usual summaries are listed below.

MCPLA Spring Championship at Dretzka Park Golf Course - Results

Dretzka Park proved to be a formidable challenge this past weekend as we avoided rain Saturday but had to deal with cool temperatures and windy conditions. The course was in good shape with thick rough that made the fairways a must! I would like to thank Scott Walecki and his awesome assistant Ben. They make my job easier with their excellent help. A big kudos go out to Course Superintendent Mike Stein for getting Dretzka in tournament shape despite the lack of workers. He did a lot of work to make the course ready for us both days. I also need to thank my starter for the past many years, Glen Jaeger. He is awesome and with him on the tee, I know everything is going perfectly!!! A big thank you goes out to John Kugel, who is our rules official. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the rules and will be a great addition in the future. Finally, a big thank you to Bob Greszewski and Jay Anasov for their help on the course and in the scoring area.

Scores were a bit higher on Sunday as the wind kicked. Congrats to all of the Net and Gross flight winners. Gift cards will be mailed to everyone as soon as possible.

We had a bout of slow play, which is hard to deal with, so let's please be proactive as a group and the group you are in: If you are falling behind it needs to be mentioned to all in the group and you have to work very hard to keep up with the group in front of you or keep on a 4 1/2 hour pace!!! Thank you.

We would have assessed a 2 stroke penalty to each team but neither team was in contention. So keep that in mind also.

Looking forward to Mee-kwon next and I want to give you a reminder about the Hon-E-Kor challenge. Each team is looking to have 24 guys. We only have 10 signed up but if you really want to play in this event (which by the way is a blast!!) there will be hard cap of 24 guys!!! So don't wait too long to sign up.

Speaking of hard caps!! You might run into being wait listed for some of our events. Which is because we had to put a cap on the number of golfers for that event. If the cap is hit you will be asked to be wait listed. If you say yes and are on the wait list and you no longer want to be wait listed please let me know ASAP and I will remove you from said list!!!

Thank you and good day,
The Committee

Dear CPMC Members

Dear CPMC Members

In less than 4 weeks our 2022 season begins, with 2 excellent courses lined up for our opening weekend.

On Saturday, April 23rd we are set to play Meadowbrook CC in Racine. This is a club-wide event for all members, and if you haven’t had the chance to play this course before it’s a real treat (especially at $40 to walk & $55 to ride). Our start time is 10:30, so we won’t have to worry about any frost delays, etc. As this is a private country club, we had to do some “special negotiating” to get a club event held at this venue, and a part of that included touting our track record for high turnout. To this end, please sign-up ASAP so that we can get an accurate idea of the volume of players. The stronger the turnout, the higher probability that we can make Meadowbrook a viable site for play in future years…….so please get signed up soon.

Additionally, we have Shepherd’s Crook set up for Sunday, April 24th for our first TOC event. This is a somewhat “below the radar” course located in Zion, IL (just over the WI border). This course is well worth the drive, and at $39 to walk & $54 to ride it is a great value. So for those members who are participating in the Tour of the County (TOC) series this season, please get yourselves signed up ASAP.

Looking forward to a great 2022 season.

Best,

Mark
