Currie Cup is coming home

The Currie Cup for the past 5 years has been played away from Currie Park Golf Course.   This year the Currie Cup is coming home.

Gentlemen GAME ON!     Go get that trophy and put some ice cold beer in it!

Are those the Red tees?

Golf 015Not sure if the Currie Cup is ready for this skill level; Team Lawson has some short hitters.   I am just not sure if they are this short.   Captain Webb is likely not going to be able to share his strategy in making “Danland pars” to all 20 of his chops.  For all we know the ball this guy is hitting may explode into dust.   BEWARE of golf balls hit short of red tee markers.   Team Lawson, I predicted will be all over the yard left, right, and down the middle.  Captain Collins has shared a strategy with his chops thanks to first time motivational speaker last year PGA Professional Eric Gitter.  “Go hit the ball, find it and hit it again; oh have some fun too.  Now let’s play some golf!”

CURRIE CUP

Gentlemen,

Welcome to Currie Cup Week.

You have been chosen to represent the Best of the Best from The National (ok so you signed up but it sounds better) in an inter-club head to head 36 hole multi format match play event for bragging rights for an entire year. Captain Webb has been basking in the limelight for the last 12 months after leading his team to another victory and holding onto the cup. Captain Collins will have to take over a much hyped but under-performing team and bring his group together to bring the cup back home. (Other side of the trophy case)

This years event will kick off at 6:00 A.M. at The National on Sunday, September 2nd, 2012. Shirts are now available at Currie Park from Eric Gitter (please call ahead to ensure he is there-not working on Thursday). If you have not paid you can pay Eric when you pick up your shirt. Your shirt will also be available on Sunday at registration but only from 6-6:15. Team pictures are at 6:20

Upon arriving please check in and find your cart. Tee times will start at 6:36 but we are asking people to arrive at 6:00 to ensure all players are accounted for and we have a full event. This is not a shotgun start.

We will have breakfast available..Donuts, Bagels, Muffins, etc..plus coffee and juice. You will also receive two drink tickets and lunch ticket (brats, dogs, burgers) to use at anytime besides breakfast.

The qualification rounds of the Jardo putting contest will also be taking place at this time. PLEASE FIND TOM before you tee off to putt. It is your responsibility to putt before you tee off. Contest will take place at far putting green near the Dome. Winner take all $200 so don't miss out (plus you have already paid for this) The Finals will take place after the Currie Cup and under the supervision of TJ.

This year we have added a new event to the format resulting in 4 different events played out over 36 holes.
NOTE: this has changed from the original schedule.

ALL PLAYERS WILL PLAY FROM BLUE TEE'S

MCPLA Arnold Walker Results

Mother Nature reared her ugly head today at Brown Deer Park. In a matter of 30-45 minutes she rendered the course unplayable leaving us no choice but to cancel today's round for the Championship and A Flight and revert back to the final 18 hole scores. B and C Flights finished play....barely. The course was is outstanding shape with very fast, smooth greens. Currie represented well this weekend with several players finishing in the money. Thank you to everyone who helped and to Ken Collins for posting the results and tee times on the Currie Park Men's Web Site.    -Bob Freuck

A big thanks to Eric Gitter, Matt Sullivan, and Greg Miller for all the hardwork they put in throughout the year to keep Currie National in playing shape. Eric did a great job as our starter, official, ranger, and scorer. The scoreboards were great as always and the pace of play was great as always. Eric was there 7-8 hours each day helping us with our event plus all the time he put in before the event. This course was in great shape considering it gets a lot of play during the year and this summer has not been an ideal growing season. Again, a big thanks to the grounds crew team for setting the pins, placing the tee's and going the extra mile for us. Did anyone notice the traps were even raked and had sand! Thanks to Ken Collins for setting up the blue golf posting/link which not only helped with keeping the world posted on our event but helped with tracking the scoring and skins for each day. Note, your scores were posted for handicap purposes but please double check those postings for any errors. Thanks also to our ceremonial starters on Saturday. (I heard it was great and apologize for not being there as I was having some technical difficulties) Though maybe a little damp, dark, and chilly all four striped it down the fairway as always. This was the first year but hopefully this will become an annual event to kick off the weekend. For more detailed results from the weekend please check out http://bglf.com/0y0q1. Last but not least thanks to all the members for coming out and participating in the event and sticking around on Sunday for the final groups to come in and finish.

The Golf Committee.
