MCPLA Two-Man Best Ball at Oakwood Park Golf Course - Results

MCPLA 2-Man Best Ball champions:

The largest field that we've ever had for the Two-Man came out to Oakwood last Sunday for a spirited and competitive event. Congrats to the John Bechard-Jim Sell team from Greenfield Men's Club for posting -4 to win the gross division last weekend, and to the Chuck Silkey-Harry Markos team from Currie Park that not only posted -10 to win the net division, but registered a cool Markos ace on the very tough 175 yard par 3 13th hole. Well done gentlemen, and besides the $260 1st place prize, we may just decide to give you X's to wear on your respective backs at next year's event. To view the complete results and prize payouts for the event:

Also, we want to thank Oakwood Pro, Adam Anderson and his staff for a job well done in serving as starters, rangers, and scorers, all contributing to a smooth running competition with outstanding pace of play that was generally under 4:30. Also, thanks to Brian Grossman for setting the event up on Golf Genius for registration and live scoring, and to the tournament committee of Glen Barkow, Will Barrett, Bob Freuck, and Kurt Beronja.

MCPLA Club Ryder Cup Challenge at Greenfield Park Golf Course - Results

Currie Ryder Cup Participants

I want to thank each of you for playing in today's Ryder Cup match. Greenfield successfully defended their home turf and retained the MCPLA Ryder Cup trophy with 13 points. All the five other teams, including us won 8 and 8.5 points, and were effectively bunched together for second place. Despite the wind and heat, the course was fair and proved to be a good test.

There were 4 skins, each was worth $68 for the team:
#2 Lange/Steffes
#3 Belich/Evers
#9 Evans/Saks
#13 Kapp/Levin

Everyone I spoke with said they enjoyed the event and are looking forward to next year when we get another chance to knock Greenfield off. Thanks again for playing, and let me know if you have any questions, concerns, or just comments.

MCPLA County Championship at Brown Deer Park Golf Course - Results

 MCPLA Members:

AWC RECAP:  This past weekend, 90 Milwaukee County golfers -- mostly MCPLA members -- participated in our flagship event, the 64th Annual Arnold Walker Milwaukee County Championship.  We had fabulous weather, reasonable pace of play, a challenging and competitive format and setup, and most of all, great golf on the fabulous Brown Deer Park golf course.   Special thanks to our tournament director, Bob Freuck and starter Glenn Jaeger, for running the tournament without a hitch and Brown Deer PGA Pro, Scott Walecki, and his staff, for assisting and creating a great course setup.

In sum, thanks to all the participants for a weekend of great golf, tough competition, and most important, outstanding sportsmanship and camaraderie in the great tradition of our tournament honoree and namesake, Arnold Walker.  Next year, the 2025 Arnold Walker Championship will be held at Dretzka Park, an outstanding course layout which has just completed $1.8 million in course improvements, including new tee boxes and cart paths.  Hopefully, our field can continue to grow and produce great county champions.

Two other brief matters.

Currie Wins 2024 Team Match Championship Trophy:  Congrats to the Currie Park Men's Club and their team captain Jack Bruss for prevailing in the final MCPLA Team Match at Grant Park on Saturday, August 17, and winning their 12th championship in the last 16 years.   And congratulations to the Grant Park Men's Club on a very solid 2nd place finish.  I would like to personally thank our outgoing Director Tony Puglielli for his outstanding three years of service in running Team Matches and also extend a warm welcome to Pat Garvens, who will serve as our incoming Director for the 2025 season.  Welcome Pat.  The 2024 season results are below:

MCPLA Two-Man Best Ball at Whitnall Park Golf Course - Results

Nice weather that deteriorated later created a very competitive tournament today at Whitnall Park. This was a good field with 84 players competing on Sunday. I am looking forward to seeing a huge field at the Arnold Walker Tournament this year. Congratulations to Joel Kappes and Kenton Kappes in the gross division and to Jeff Kapp and Bryan Olen in the net division. The Tournament went off very well thanks to PGA Professional James Grogan and his awesome staff. Huge thanks to starter Glen Jaeger. His dedication to volunteering is very much appreciated. These guys make my job much easier with their hard work. It was awesome to see so many new faces entered, I hope you all had a good time and consider playing in the Arnold Walker!!

Congrats to all of the Net and Gross flight winners. Gift cards will be mailed to everyone as soon as possible.
