Club Event at The Club at Lac La Belle - Results

Lac La Belle Survivors,

It was another beautiful, hot, humid, summer day for our event today at The Golf Club of Lac La Belle. I hope that all our members and guests had a great time. I heard a lot of mixed reviews on the golf course layout and conditions. My personal viewpoint was that I was impressed by the dramatic layout and enjoyed the experience overall. I did think that the pin placements pushed the envelope a bit, even at what were relatively slow greens. The course routing gave you some intimidating looks off the tee and into the greens and left you guessing at times on exactly where you could or could not hit the ball. Playing it a second time would definitely be a more comfortable experience.

There were some fine performances turned in, led by team Brian Pederson and Chris Brock, combining to win the best ball competition at 8 under par. Skins of $20ea. were won by Jake Boulware #1 and 16, Jesse Alba #3, Brian Pederson #5, Eric Gitter #8, Scott Brandt #12, and Jack Bruss #14. The winning teams and payouts are listed below. Congrats! Thanks to Brian Pederson for helping out with the scoring and skin payouts...much appreciated.

MCPLA 3rd Annual 2 Man Best Ball Championship at Currie Park Golf Course

This year just continues to be a challenge. For the 2nd straight MCPLA Tournament, the weather made it interesting. Heavy rain made it necessary to play musical carts making everyone walk the 17th hole. My thanks to Bob Gerszewski for helping me shuttle carts to the 18th tee. My thanks goes out to Glen Jaeger for his expertise in keeping the 1st tee running smoothly. Many, many thanks go out to PGA Professional Scott Walecki and his assistant Ben. They did an incredible job of getting the course ready to play. They were also great in keeping the scoring up-to-date and getting the playoffs off and running. We had a record field this year that resulted in a playoff for both divisions. I will be mailing out the gift cards soon. Currie was challenging with the wind adding to the challenge. My day continued to be strange by finishing it by chasing down and stopping 2 kids trying to steal a golf cart!!! You should have seen the look in their eyes when this old big guy stopped them!!! Please remember to post your scores on the WSGA website.

Second Team at Grant Park Golf Course - Results

Gentlemen –

It was a great day today in spite of a 45 minute or so delay for a rain squall.  Our guys persevered in the face of one of the fastest and heaviest rainfalls in history.  Maybe a slight exaggeration.  It occurred around 1:30 with gale force winds and horizontal rain.  All of our players who hadn’t finished yet hung around and went back out to bring home the victory.

We took 135 points, beating second place Grant by 17.  Third place went to Oakwood, another 14 behind Grant.  For the season we lead Grant by 48 points with 2 matches remaining, at Dretzka and Brown Deer.

Dave Ullenberg led the way for us, scoring all 18 points in the number 1 slot.  Doug Bowring grabbed 17, and Brian Pederson and Gary Zwirlein each took 15.  Individual awards went to Bowring for closest to the pin on 11 and Gerry McGrath for longest putt on 18.  It was a great day for the team, 6 of our 12 players breaking 80, and 9 shooting 82 or less.  I brought a cooler full of about 35 cans of beer, and when I left around 4:00, every single one had been consumed.  I thought I had brought more than enough, but you know how these Currie guys are.

The usual summaries are listed below.  Thanks to one and all for the great effort today!

Jack
