Club Event at Spring Valley Country Club - Results

Currie Members,

Detailed below are the results and payoffs for today's event at Spring Valley Country Club. In addition to some fine play and the usual comradery, the highlight for me was the weather and the golf course. I think the weather turned out to be a bit sunnier and warmer than forecasted. The course, which many of us have never played, was an impressively challenging layout and esthetically very pleasing to the eye, at least to mine. The wide range of scores, I think, was partially a reflection of the difficulty of the course and particularly, the greens. For $20, walking, it's also quite the bargain. Kudos to those who cashed in and were up to the challenge.

Thanks to Steve Wolter for assistance with all the scorekeeping and John Hirsch and Rich Saks for helping with the skins. Much appreciated.

Hope y'all had fun,

Club Event at Dretzka Park Golf Course - Results

Dretzka Competitors,

In spite of the damp conditions I thought Dretzka was in fine shape and I hope everybody enjoyed playing.  Thanks to Scott Walecki and his staff for accommodating us on short notice.  We appreciate that.  The results and payouts are detailed below.  Top prize, with both teams at 9 under par, went to team Jaeger/Zolandz and team Baker/Bowring.  Inside sources indicate a lot of ham and egging with the Jaeger/Zolandz team and a hot Doug Bowring contributed 3 consecutive birdies (11,12&13) and a gross 77 to the formidable Baker/Bowring duo.  Congrats to all teams that cashed in.  Bryan Dominick was medalist with a fine 76.

Skins of $41ea. were won be Steve Wolter #'s 4 & 7.  John Hirsch #8 and Darin Bunkers #14.

Second Team at Oakwood - Results

Gentlemen –

The Currie Second Team came out of the gate running today, and we captured first place in the event, narrowly beating Greenfield 145 points to 139. Oakwood and Grant tied for 3rd with 114 points. It was the first match with the new slimmed down roster size and the medal play portion of the format removed, and we acquitted ourselves well.

Steve Amble led the team with all 18 points, Director Brian Pederson took 17, and Dave Ullenberg and Dominic Carini took 16 each. Ullenberg had the round of the day, a nice 2 under par 70. Carini shot 78. There are no more hole prizes in these events, but our guys took 3 skins, Ullenberg with birdie on 1, Steve Jaeger with birdie on 4, and the team captain with birdie on 13.

Remember to post your scores. They are not posted for you in these team events.

The next match will be at Whitnall on Saturday, June 20, starting at 7 AM with high handicappers going out first. I’ll be recruiting a team in a week or so.

See ya,

Jack

MCPLA Spring Championship at Grant Park Golf Course - Results

For the second year in a row, rain wreaked havoc on Sunday’s round, this year forcing the cancelation of the round. Grant Park proved to be a good test for all golfers as scores were generally higher than imagined. Thank you go out to Course Professional Dave Labinski and Superintendent Brian Danko for their good work in preparing the course for the weekend despite the crazy pandemic going on. I would also like to thank Glen Jaeger for his expert skills as a starter. He kept play right on pace and has done so for many years now. I would also like to thank John Haeflinger and Rich Luczkowski for their scoring expertise. Thanks also go out to on-course spotters Jack Fleming and Bob Greszewski. Club Event Washington County Golf Course - Results

Washington County Competitors,

Displayed below are the results from Saturday's individual net flighted competition and skins. Nice playing to all the victors. As per usual, the wind kicked up in defense of Washington County's sweeping layout. In spite of these blustery conditions, there were some outstanding scores turned in.

Most Notable Highlights:

1) Chuck Silkey and Lee Gardner both shot gross 76. Chuck's round included 4 birdies, 1 on the front and 3 on the back.

2) Brian Pederson led the net category with a stellar of 69, gross 80 to win the A Flight.

3) Doug Bowring, wearing one of his better looking flamboyant outfits, shot a very credible gross 82, net 70, tying Bryan Olen for top spot in the net B Flight.

4) Thanks to Dan Webb for helping out collecting the greens fees and skins money. Heal up quickly, Dan, from your leg injury so you can resume chopping with the rest of the chops!
