36 - Hole Championships for Currie Club, Milwaukee County & State of Wisconsin

Men of Currie:

Please take note that there are 3 upcoming Championships that I wish to call to your attention. Each of these is listed in our Club Schedule, with links available to either sign-up or obtain the forms to submit your entry.

The first of these events is our own Currie Club Championship. This is scheduled for August 8th & 9th, and will be contested in 4 flights.

The second of these events is the 55th annual Arnold Walker Championship, to be held at Oakwood Park. This is the MCPLA's championship stroke-play event to be contested August 23rd & 24th.

The last of these 36 - hole championships is the Wisconsin Public Links Association State tournament. This event is to be held September 12th & 13th, with one round at Nagawaukee & and another round played at Wanaki.

Traditionally, Currie players have consistently shown up in force as well as made a very strong showing on the leader board at both the County & State level. If you enjoy competitive golf contested on excellent golf courses, then all three of these events offers you a great opportunity to test your mettle against golfers from all over the area as well as the state.

Please check your calendars, and lets "grip it & rip it" at every one of these tournaments.

See you on the course.

Alternate Golf Opportunities

Dear Currie Members:

As a service to our members we’d like to advise you of 2 golf events that are upcoming. Although neither of these are club events, Jeff & I have decided to use the website to make you aware of these alternative opportunities to play golf.

The first event is scheduled on July 25th. Although there is a 2nd Team Match that day, since only 16 members can play in a given Team Match we recognize that some of you may be looking for an alternate option to play that day. This event is a scramble being played at The Bull. Details are available in the attached link.

The second event we’d like to mention is being held on Monday, Sept 21st. This has been organized by Terry Winiarski, the Oakwood club President. Details are as follows:
Date:     Monday September 21st.
Place:    Hidden Glen at Bentdale Farms in Cedarburg
Time:     Shotgun start somewhere between 9-10 am.
Field:     Limited to 100 players.
Lunch:   Included in the cost of golf.
Format: Senior Stableford with low gross and low net winner.
Beer/Wine:  This is not included in the price.
Cost: $100 per person
Payment Method:  Make checks payable to Hidden Glen Golf Club and give them to your club president.
Dress Code: Proper golf attire.

While the vast majority of the time we focus our promotion of golf events to either club events, MCPLA, WPLA and/or WSGA events, on occasion we will also make you aware of other golfing opportunities that do not conflict with any of the aforementioned activities.

Any questions, please feel free to reach out to either Jeff or myself.

See you on the course.

Currie Men Have Strong Showing at WPLA Beloit Event

Men of Currie:

Once again our club has shown brightly at another state level event, this time at the recent WPLA Senior/Mid-Am Championships held in Beloit this past weekend.

For the second consecutive year, Beloit’s Krueger-Haskell golf course hosted this event, and once again our club was well-represented throughout all divisions of the event.

In the Mid-Am portion of the event, our own Jeff Camosy placed in the Top - 10 of the Net category, and while Jeff didn’t quite finish in the money he did manage to turn a profit off his various wagers with other Currie club members (and a few non-members as well).

In the Senior portion of the event we had 6 Currie members competing led by Rich Saks’ T - 1 finish in the Net 60-69 age bracket. Dave Ullenberg finished in the Top -10 of the Gross 50 – 59 bracket, and none other than myself finished T – 2 in the Net 50 – 59 bracket. Other participants in the Senior division included Steve Jaeger, Jack Bruss & Brian Pederson.

I’d like take this opportunity to not only congratulate all our guys for representing Currie so well, but to also remind everyone that the WPLA 36 – hole Stroke Play Championship is coming up the second weekend of September. This is another outstanding event and will be held at Nagawaukee & Wanaki golf courses. Let’s see if we can get 15 – 20 participants in that tournament & have another strong showing at the top of the leader board.

See you on the course.

Message from the Club President

Men of Currie!

I am writing to you at what is roughly the halfway mark of our club’s golf season. I hope that thus far everyone has been enjoying themselves, and that the various club events have provided you an ample opportunity to satisfy your desire to play golf that is both competitive and great fun.

As of this writing there are a few remaining events that I wish to highlight, although I’ll quickly add that I’d like to promote all of the events on our calendar.

Firstly, we have a Challenge Match coming up on August 1st at Hon-E-Kor golf course in beautiful Kewaskum. For those that have yet to play this 27-hole layout, it features a number of sporty holes and the greens are fast and undulating. We have a limited number of spots available, and only 13 remain. This event is capped at 24 participants, so if you plan to play for Currie’s honor, please sign up ASAP.

Secondly, our Club Championship is coming up on August 8th – 9th. Once again, Jeff Camosy and I will team with Scott Walecki to make certain that this will be as stern a test as the National can offer, complete with some of the tougher pins this side of Chambers Bay. Please make sure to sign up as soon as you can, as this event always has heavy participation from our members.

Thirdly, our intra-club competition is coming up in 2 short months on September 6th. Known as the Currie Cup, this event is a 36-hole version of the club’s civil war, where we pick up teams amongst our members and then go at it for bragging rights. If you haven’t played in this event before, or if it’s been a few years since you have, please make sure to sign up as this is one of the best days of the year on our club calendar.

Lastly, the final weekend of September features 2 separate events at really great courses. Saturday the 26th is at Mascoutin & then Sunday the 27th is at Whispering Springs, both outstanding layouts and well-conditioned courses. Please look at your calendar and consider adding one or both of these events to your golfing schedule. September golf in Wisconsin can provide some of the best conditions we play in all year.

That’s it for now. Look forward to seeing everyone at all our club events, plus the various WPLA, WSGA & MCPLA events where the Men of Currie invariably have a significant presence on the tournament leaderboards as well as the clubhouse bar!!

Play Well.

6/14 Watertown Event: TEE TIMES and PAIRINGS

Watertown players,
The first tee time for this event is 9:00am and I originally had 10 minute intervals when I set the event page up. I’ve since learned that Watertown operates with 8 minute intervals so I’ve adjusted the times accordingly. With 10 tee times it makes a difference toward the end. The last tee time is now 10:12 instead of 10:30. Also, we’ve had a player drop and one add so please make sure you take another look to ensure your aware of your tee time is for Sunday (please take another look).
