Club Event at Washington County Golf Course - Results

Hello gents,

What a beautiful day to play golf!!!

Luckily it was so nice as pace of play was a bit slow!! By no means was it our fault. And after watching these groups in front of us not even really try to speed up after being told they were a half hour behind pace, makes me appreciate our club and our effort to play at a good pace!!! Thanks for that!!

Well, some good golf was played on a very calm day at Washington County. Which is very rare!! Not the good golf but the calm day!!!

Gary Fenzl shot a very nice 75, John Dobroski 76, Steve Wolter 77 and Chuck Silkey a 78.

The overall net event was won by Steve Wolter at -3. He will receive $60. Rob Sweeney took 2nd at -2 and will get $50. Tied for third were Steve Jaeger and John Dobroski at -1, they each receive $35. And tied for 5th at even par was Dan Seiter, John Hirsch and Gary Fenzl. They will each get $15.

8 skins total. Jeff Brandt and Rob Sweeney had 2 skins each. Pete Tarantino, Henry Mayer, Gary Fenzl and Dominic Carini each had one skin!!

Honorable mention to Johnny Torch for his Eagle on 12!

MCPLA Club Ryder Cup Challenge at Greenfield Park Golf Course - Results

Currie Ryder Cup Participants

I want to thank each of you for playing in today's Ryder Cup match. Greenfield successfully defended their home turf and retained the MCPLA Ryder Cup trophy with 13 points. All the five other teams, including us won 8 and 8.5 points, and were effectively bunched together for second place. Despite the wind and heat, the course was fair and proved to be a good test.

There were 4 skins, each was worth $68 for the team:
#2 Lange/Steffes
#3 Belich/Evers
#9 Evans/Saks
#13 Kapp/Levin

Everyone I spoke with said they enjoyed the event and are looking forward to next year when we get another chance to knock Greenfield off. Thanks again for playing, and let me know if you have any questions, concerns, or just comments.

MCPLA Team Match at Whitnall Park Golf Course - Results

Gentlemen –

The Currie boys, defending champs, opened the team match season today at Whitnall on a nice day for golf. We did a workmanlike job, scoring 128 points to finish 3rd in the event. Whitnall, the home team, took first with 142 points, and Oakwood took 135. Greenfield was 6 behind us at 122.

Our high point men on the day were Dave Ullenberg with 18, Steve Jaeger with 17, and Brian Pederson with 15. Ullenberg was our medalist with 83, Pederson shot 84, and Jaeger 85. Rob Sweeney was the only other Currie guy to break 90, shooting 89, as the course played long and tough.

John Hirsch won closet to the pin on the 3rd hole, and Rob Sweeney took closest on 9 and won a skin with birdie on 9.

New team director, Patrick Garvens, and Whitnall head pro, James Grogan, did a fine job managing everything, so kudos to them. The weather was great, and the golf course was in fine shape.

Although we would have liked to win the event, we are nicely poised to move to our customary spot at the top of the standings as the season progresses.

Thanks to all of you who came out to participate today.

Thanks,
Jack

To All MCPLA Members:

This past Sunday, the 2025 MCPLA Spring Championship was held at Currie Park. The rain held off, the greens grew in nicely from their spring aeration, the rest of the course was in outstanding condition, and most important, some high quality, competitive golf was played. Thanks to the Currie staff and Pro Nick Dooley for providing a great venue for this annual event and assisting with the scoring. And thanks to VP Will Barrett for kicking off the event as our first tee starter in a punctual and efficient manner while instructing everyone on how to use the Golf Genius app.

63 players participated in the Stableford event, within 4 flights (Championship was gross and the A, B & C flights were all net competitions).

Congratulations to all the winners and runners up:

Championship Flight Winner: Matt Mattioli (Brown Deer) 34 points won on a roll back over Ryan Maloney (Brown Deer)

A Flight Winner: Henry Mayer (Currie) 39 points won on a roll back over Keith Luedtke (Whitnall)

The greens were in great shape and rolled beautifully!!

No good news from Hon-E-Kor except that is was a lot of fun playing Ryder cup format. We got spanked pretty bad, 29.5 to 10.5, but I am thinking those who played had a good time!! We will get them next year!!
