Second Team at Whitnall - Results

Gentlemen –

The Currie Second Team persevered  through some tough conditions out at Whitnall today.  It started raining around 7:30 AM and continued pretty much the rest of the day.  I’m proud to say all 16 of our guys showed up, competed, and finished their rounds, something that 4 of the 7 teams could not say.

Thanks to everyone toughing it out, we won the event with 241 points.  Oakwood finished with 236 points to take second place, and Whitnall took third with 215.  For the season we stand now in 3rdplace, 28 points behind Whitnall and 9 behind Oakwood.  Brown Deer is 16 points behind us, with Dretzka, Grant, and Greenfield well behind them.

Twelve of our 16 players scored half or more of their points, Doug Bowring, Rich Saks, and Brad Romanowski leading the way with 24, 22, and 20 respectively.  Bowring was our medalist with a nice 80.  Mike O’Neil shot 83, and Dominic Carini and Saks 84.  We did not win any  hole prizes, but Bowring won a skin on the 15th hole and Harry Markos won one on the 18th

A reminder -  you have to post your own scores for this event.  The club will not be doing that for you.  Also, a few of you have not paid Director Brian Pederson the $33 greens fee yet, so please take care of that promptly.  It’s your responsibility to pay him, not his to collect from you.

Next up is Oakwood on Saturday July 7.  Let’s hope the weather will be better than it’s been for these first 2 matches.

Thanks again to everyone who stuck it out today,

Jack

Club Event at Currie - Results

Currie National Tour Club Members,

With the cool weather and damp conditions the National played quite long for some of us shorter hitters.  On the flip side the greens were in good shape and holding quite nicely.  Good scores were definitely out there to be had and the possibility of "ham and egging" it with your partner provided further opportunities.  A big shout out to the winners!  Well done.  Also, thanks to head pro Dave Labinski for doing a great job of setting up the course and handling all the scoring and skins duties.

2018 MCPLA SR & MID-AM TOURNAMENT RESULTS
Geenfield Park Golf Course, May 19 & 20, 2018

PGA Professional Ben Popies and Superintendent Tim did an excellent job providing great conditions despite the challenging conditions. Their assistance was incredible in making this past weekend a success. Many thanks to starters Brian McKinley, Jack Fleming, Bob Bandkowski, and Dale Somers for their great job keeping the tee times precise. Spotters Bob and Brian where a great help in keeping the pace of play good. Also a huge thank you to rules officials Arnold Walker for his on-course help. At age 95, he still does a great job!!! Finally a huge thank you for scoring help from Rich Luczkowski, John Haeflinger, Jay Anosov, and Terry Teskie. They kept the scoreboard rolling even with the very soggy scorecards Sunday!!!

Congratulations to Mid-Am Champion Jim Schubert, Sr Champion, Bill Condon, Sr “A” flight

Second Team at Brown Deer - Results

Gentlemen –

We opened our Second Team season at Brown Deer yesterday with a bit of a thud, finishing 4th, a full 54 points behind event winner, Whitnall.  The course was soggy, but otherwise in fine condition and the greens were excellent.  Playing the blue tees at 6300 yards and no roll was challenging, especially for us short hitting mortals.  Mike O’Neill was not one of those, as he somehow carded a one under par 70 on the day.  Nice going Mike!

The team took 196 points, led by Gary Zwirlein with 23.  Director Brian Pederson took 22, Steve Jaeger 21, and O’Neil 19.

Team members won several individual prizes.  In the low handicapper bracket O’Neil took a skin with birdie on 1, and Jaeger another with birdie on 14,  and in the high handicapper bracket Zwirlein took a skin on number 1 and Harry Markos got one on 15.  Harry had one of the biggest ABFUs on record, I believe, following up his birdie 4 on 15 with a juicy 12 on 16. ðŸ˜Š  According to Harry’s email to me, several water balls and shanks were involved.  Ah, golf, what a game.  We’ve all been there Harry.

In flag events Jeff Kapp took closest to the pin on 5, Jaeger took longest putt on 2, and Doug Bowring took longest drive on 10, the latter benefiting by the fact that the flag wasn’t set out until most of the field had already gone through.

A couple more things.  Two guys were DQ’d because they wore jeans yesterday.  Let that be a reminder to all of us that there is a dress code for these events that basically says no jeans, no cutoffs, no tank tops, and shirts must have collars.  Don’t ever violate the dress code please.

Brown Deer charged us $46 yesterday, (the extra $1 was for the skins game) but it should have been $40, so they gave us $6 gift cards to make up the difference.  I have them and will try to get them to all the players the next time I see them, but my pea brain is old and forgetful, so if you played yesterday and did not get your gift card yet, remind me when you see me.

Our next match is at Whitnall on Sunday, June 10.  I’ll be recruiting a team shortly, but if you think you can do well there and want to play, let me know.

See ya,

Jack
