Second Team at Grant Park Golf Course - Results

Gentlemen –

We had a pretty good showing out at Grant today. We led through most of the event, but in the end we couldn’t hold off home team Grant. They took first place with 130 points, and we took second with 129, losing by one stinking point. Greenfield was third with 114.

We moved up to third place in the season standings, just 20 points behind Grant and 5 behind Oakwood. Greenfield is 21 behind us in 4th place. With three matches to go, one at our place, we are well positioned for another championship run in the coming months.

Darrel Frenzel was our point leader, taking 16 of 18. Rick Reiter took 15, and Rich Saks and Steve Amble took 13 each. Brian Pederson was our medalist with 77, and Gerry McGrath shot 79.

Individual awards go to Mark Cuthbert for a skin on 4, Doug Bowring for a skin on 15, Bob Sweeney for a skin on 18, Sweeney again for closest to the pin on 17, and Sweeney once again for long drive on 12. Not a bad showing for Bob’s first ever second team match!

The usual summaries are listed below.

Our next match is at the National on Saturday, July 17. I’ll start putting a team together in a couple of weeks.

Thanks to all of you who came out to compete today, thanks to Director Pederson for all he does all year for Second team, and thanks to Dave Labinski and the Grant staff for handling the event superbly, in spite of a one hour rain delay.

Thanks,

Jack

Club Event at Johnson Park Golf Course - Results

Currie Men's Club,

Johnson Park was in beautiful condition today as was the weather. Although it was hot and sunny, a steady breeze seemed to keep it a little cooler than it might have been. The A and B Flight net results and payouts are detailed below with Tom Condella toping the A Flight and Doug Schafer running away with the B Flight. Congrats to all the winners! Gross honor scores go out to Chris Glinski shooting an outstanding 76 and Tom Condella, Larry Dake, and Phil Levin all shooting a very commendable 80. Skins of $18 were won by Brian Pederson #5 and #9, Darrell Frenzel #4, Dominic Carini #18 and Darin Bunkers #14. Thanks to all of you that helped out with the scoring and skins. I hope everybody had a good time.

Our next club event is at Sheboygan Town & Country Club on Sunday, June 27th.

Club Event at Dretzka Park Golf Course - Results

Currie Competitors,

I'm not quite sure why, but, Dretzka proved to be a scoring challenge today. There were some good scores turned in, however, nobody was able to break 80. That is a little unusual for the talented group of golfers that we are. There were some tough pins and the course did seem to play long with the past few days of rain. The top 3 finishers and payouts in each flight are detailed below. Skins of $51ea. were won by Jeff Brandt #3, Brian Pederson #6, and Justin Gorski #17. Closest to the pin contest winners were Johnny Ponkratz won #4 and Doug Bowring won #13. Congrats guys! I have some high quality, professional looking, Taylormade hats for you. Thanks to Scott Walecki and his staff for all the help with our event.

Thanks to all participants,
Phil Levin

Second Team at Oakwood Park Golf Course - Results

Gentlemen –

Well we didn’t get off to our usual good start to the season this year. We took 4th place in the event, finishing 27 points behind home team Oakwood, who won with 131 points. Grant took 2nd place with 123, and Dretzka 3rd with 106. Fortunately we have 4 more matches in which to come back and take the championship.

Gerry McGrath took 17 of 18 possible points to lead us, and Director Brian Pederson and Steve Jaeger took 16 each. Brian was our medalist with 81.

Steve Amble won a skin with a birdie on number 11.

A couple of summaries are listed below.

The course was in great shape, and thanks go to the Oakwood staff for handling things cleanly and to our Director Brian for all the work he does all year for these events.

Remember to post your own scores, as that will not be done for you.

Our next match is at Grant on Saturday, June 19th, and I’ll be recruiting a team in a week or two.

Thanks,

Jack

MCPLA Spring Championship at Oakwood Park Golf Course - Results

The weather tested most player’s will on Saturday but we were blessed with wonderful weather on Sunday for this year’s Spring Championship. This year we had a record number of entries at 93 players!! I was pleased with the turnout and hope this is a sign of things to come. I would like to thank Andy Gieryn and his staff for the outstanding service and conditions of the golf course. The greens were the talk of the town after each round!! I would also like to thank Bob Gerszewski, Brian McKinley, John Kugal for their expert spotting skills. I would also like to thank Glen Jaeger for his continued excellence as the starter both days. He is an expert at keeping the tee running exactly on time!! I would also like to thank Rich Luczkowski for his help scoring on Sunday. Also a big thanks to Kenny Collins for being a marshall Saturday and helping diffuse a difficult situation. Volunteers help make my job as Tournament Director a bit easier.

Scores were definitely higher this year than in the past. Oakwood proved to be a good test of your short game skills. Congrats to all of the Net and Gross flight winners. Gift cards will be mailed to everyone as soon as possible.

Club Event at Currie Park Golf Course - Results

Currie 2 Man Best Ball Participants,

Thank you all for participating in today's event. It took some time, but we eventually got a bit of warm weather to complete our rounds. With the blustery wind and firm greens and fairways, it proved to be a bit tricky selecting the right club on approaches into the greens. We had a tie for first place with team Amble/J. Brandt and Hirsch/Olen at -8. They were followed by team Glinski/Schafer at -6 and Camosy/Cuthbert, Dominick/Reiter, and Bruss/Frenzel all at -4. Closest to the pin competition was won by "Domo" on #8 and Gerry McGrath on #16. You will receive 2 sleeves of premium golf balls next time I see you. Honor scores were turned in by Dominic Carini with a 75 and Steve Jaeger and Chuck Silkey with 79's. Team payouts and skins of $20ea. are detailed below. Thank you to head pro Scott Walecki and assistant Ben Ciha for all there help in running the event.

Next Club event is at New Berlin Hills, May 29th.

See you all soon,

Phil Levin

Club Event at Fairways of Woodside - Results

Currie Men's Club,

We had 32 players, 8 teams, participate in today's Irish 4 Ball competition at Fairways of Woodside golf course.  While we did get a few raindrops, it actually turned out to be a relatively nice day.  I would say that the most notable aspect of the golf course, in general, is that the back nine is considerably tougher to score on than the front.  The event was won by the Brandt/Pederson/Cuthbert/Levin team at -5, followed by Ullenberg/Markos/Zwirlein/Reiter at -4, and Barkow/Bowring/Glinski/Olen at +6.  Honor scores were turned in by Dave Ullenberg, 73 and Chuck Silkey wih a 79.  Results and payouts, including skins of $30ea. are detailed below.  Thanks to Brian Pederson for helping out with the scoring and Rick Reiter and Glen Barkow for assisting with the skins.

I hope everybody had fun today.

The signup deadline for next Saturday's 2 Man Best Ball at Currie National  is Monday, April 26th.  Make sure you get in on the fun.

Club Event at Currie Park Golf Course - Results

Currie Men's Club,

Today marked the return of the one-man scramble format as our season ending event. It seemed like everybody had fun and enjoyed the competition. I think part of the challenge of this format is to know your game well enough to decide how to best utilize your extra shots. There were some fine scores turned in highlighted by Dave Ullenberg (68- Championship Flight), Mark Cuthbert (68- A Flight) and Jesse Alba (69- B Flight). We payed out cash for the top 3 spots in each flight detailed below.

Thanks to everybody for participating and thanks to Scott Walecki and Ben Ciha for all their help running the event. We appreciate it. As an aside, I know a lot of you like to go out for breakfast prior to our club events. I think it would be an appropriate suggestion to include a "One-Man Scramble" on the breakfast menu as a hearty start to your round of golf...just a thought.

Club Event at West Bend Lakes Golf Club - Results

West Bend Participants,

Based on what I saw as I was entering today's scores, with a few exceptions, the back nine played quite a bit tougher than the front nine. I definitely think the back nine is tougher from tee to green and I personally found the greens difficult all the way around. Congratulations to team S.Brandt/Brock/Alba for their 1st place finish of 19 under par. Notable gross honor scores were turned in by Lee Gardner 72, Scott Brandt 74, Chuck Silkey and Bob Cristan 78 and Jeff Brandt 79. All contest payouts and skins results are detailed below. Thanks to all who participated. I hope everybody had fun. Thanks to Steve Jaeger for helping out with the scoring and skins payouts. As a reminder, be sure to sign up for our final event and club meeting which is on September 26th.
