Currie Second Team Hangs onto First Place Heading to Final Match

Our Currie Second Team had an average day at the National on Saturday, taking 189 points and finishing 4th in the event.  Both Brown Deer and Greenfield gained on us, but we remain in first place with one more event to go, at Dretzka in just 3 weeks.  Bill Zolandz, Ken Collins, and Terry Stella led the way with 23, 21, and 21 points respectively.    Rich Saks took 16 and 4 guys managed 15.  Mr Collins was our medalist with a fine 74.  He missed being medalist for the whole group by just 1 shot to Mike Tomsevics of Grant Park who was helped by an ace on the 5th hole.  Jim Sell of Greenfield, shot a sparkling 32 on the back nine taking 7 points from the team captain. :)

We now lead Greenfield by just 19 points and Brown Deer by 43 heading into the final match of the year at Dretzka on Sunday, August 17.

For the season your humble captain took over the team point lead with 73, with Saks 9 back and Doug Bowring and Zolandz 10 back.

Many thanks to our new pro, Scott Walecki for assisting with the event.  He was out very early in the morning, providing scorecards, flags for hole events, and a starters tent that he manned for both the front and back nines.  The course was in excellent shape, the best in my memory, the pin positions were varied and interesting, and everything went off well without a major hitch.  Kudos to Scott.

Thanks also to Jim Wilkinson and Nicole Camosy both of whom also came out early and spotted for the participants throughout the event.  Nicole was a welcome addition to the post event beer drinking party and more than held her own with the louts surrounding her.

Thanks also go to Steve Wolter, a non player today, who came out and with Bill Zolandz entered the scores into the laptop and onto the big board, enabling the captain to rest on the sidelines swilling beer.  Also, as always, thanks to Second Team Director Brian Pederson for his efforts in getting this event and all the others to run smoothly.

All in all, it wasn't a great day for the home team, but it was a pretty good day, and we remain the team to beat as we go for the six-peat in the final event of the season 3 weeks away.

Today’s results and season summaries are listed below.
