2nd Team @Grant

Gentlemen:  The pairings for our first match Saturday, May 4 at Grant are listed at the end of this email.  Our roster for the day is listed immediately below.

Ullenberg
McGrath
Jaeger
Bowring
Saks
Cuthbert
Mattheis
Bruss
Reiter
Nowotny
Camosy
Binder
Zolandz
Wilkinson
Jardanowski
Breul
Alternate – Pederson

All of those who are playing have already confirmed twice that they will be there on time so there is no need to confirm this email.  Note that there are a number of blank spots for Dretzka players.  Many of these spots will probably be filled by the day of the event, but we’ll just have to wait and see.  If I get them ahead of time, I will pass them on to you, but you may not see any late subs until the morning of the 4th.  Don’t let it throw you off.

A few Notes:
1.       This is not a shotgun start.  We are doing straight tee times from the 1st and 10th tees starting at 7:00 with a crossover.  Make sure you report to the correct tee at least 10 minutes before your scheduled tee time.
2.       The cost is $26, but you will not pay at the desk.  Currie will prepay for the team.  That means you need to pay our club Treasurer, Tom Condella.  He will not be at Grant on the 4th, so you can mail him a check at 8111 W Wright St, Wauwatosa, 53213.  You can also pay me at Grant if you prefer, but you will have to find me to do so.  I will not be trying to find you to collect.  Just to be clear – it is not Toms responsibility to collect from you, it is your responsibility to pay Tom (or me).
3.       There will be no food or drink tickets this year.  Your $26 covers green fees only.

This is our first match in defense of our last year’s 4th straight championship.   As always, we don’t care (much) what your score is or how many fairways you hit, or bad bounces you may have gotten, or how many putts you make, but we do care about how many points you win.  That is the only measure that counts.  Remember, no matter how well or how badly things may be going for you, keep grinding for any point you can win.  They all count, whether you win 1 or 24.

As added incentive, my 68th birthday is May 5th,   the day after the event, but you don’t have to go out and spend hours shopping for that perfect gift.  Instead, just go out and win some points, and  bring home a rousing victory to put us a leg up on the quest for our 5th straight title.

See you soon,

Jack

Week 1 Results

Week 1 was an awesome weekend for some golf. Hawks View greens were in fantastic shape. The Bog opened on Thursday for the first time which did not allow them to prepare their greens; a bit unfortunate with the rainy weather. Good turnout for both events.

Some points of interest:
BlueGolf is being used for the events this year
Your scores will be automatically adjusted and posted for you
Please see that your scorecards are signed and turned into the director of the event (generally will be Steve Wolter unless otherwise notified)

Results are available on BlueGolf for you to study.

Hawks View Results - see them here
The Bog Results - see them here

There were 7 SKINS out at The Bog
Pay out for 1st Gross and 1st and 2nd Net in each flight (amounts are yet to be determined) - [an action item is for Webb and Condella to let the tournament director know how much is available, so get your money mailed into Tom]

Thank you for those who paid their dues this weekend. (We had 5 people get their money in)

We had a number of new members playing with us. WELCOME!

See you on the links.

Opening Weekend 2013

Perhaps some of you may have seen some snow recently or perhaps some rain and flooding at your favorite golf course.   Never mind the snow and rain; it's time to get out on the golf course and play a round or two.  For some it may be the first; for others perhaps the tenth or eleventh.  Bumped into a few at recent Evergreen event.  I even saw a few at Broadlands in 37 degree cold windy ugly day.

Here we go with the new system leveraging BlueGolf 100% this year.  We are doing so to reduce some of the administrative work and make things a little nicer for scoring.   We used BlueGolf last year with the help of Gitter and Kessler.   This year we have added the sign up process as well.   Steve Wolter and Eric Gitter will be working on putting together the pairings and tee times for the events.  Some events require different handicap levels to play together while other events will allow you to pick your own team.

Exceptions are allowed for those who desire or require a tee time early or late; also exceptions to play with someone can be request.  Send an email to Steve or Eric regarding your request.

Can't Keep up? 11 Ways to Help

So, it's a Saturday or Sunday morning event at the golf course. You are playing in a foursome with guys you know or maybe guys you don't know. Are you in one of those foursome's having trouble keeping up with the group in front of you?
Here are 11 ways to help you around:
  1. Think positive thoughts, REALLY!
  2. Share positive thoughts with others in your foursome
  3. Walk with a purpose, no strolling along
  4. Hit your golf ball first; then worry about others in your foursome
  5. Have your ball and tee in your hand on the tee box, be ready
  6. Have your golf glove on before it's your time to hit, be ready
  7. In a cart, drop off your riding companion first
  8. Help out your foursome by grabbing the flag stick, if you have holed out
  9. Putt out if you are not in someone's line, you will make more than you miss
  10. Put your cell phone away and play golf
  11. Encourage the guys in your foursome to figure it out; let's get moving - DON'T LOOK BACK!
These seem all pretty straight forward, right? Well, maybe not for everyone. Maybe you are that guy who says, "I paid my money, I will do what I want!"? Hopefully, these guys are getting weeded out and are playing miniature golf.

Let's look at the #1 way in the list to help your foursome keep up. Even though this crazy game has hacklers, you can still harass your competition while staying positive. A foursome with some strong positive talk (with some hackling in between) will help keep your foursome in position throughout the round. The #1 reason a group plays well and quickly is the positive energy in the group.

Hey, you say "I am 20 handicapper, I suck!" Guess what? You think that way (you'll suck) you will continue to play bad, feel bad, and slow down your foursome with the entire golf course. You are a golfer, right?! Then, get out there and golf walk with a purpose, hit your ball first, be ready to play, and think positive thoughts. Be part of the foursome by engaging in some light conversation to keep your thoughts in check. Enjoy the game we call golf which is played in what I like to call God's Country which is paradise.

#11 DON'T LOOK BACK! - no one cares where the group is behind you; please keep up with group in front of you.

Enjoy your round!
