Second Team romps to our 7th championship in 8 years!

Gentlemen –

Currie’s Second Team had a big day at Grant Park today, romping to our 7th championship in 8 years.  We took 260 points, winning the event by 39 points over Whitnall, giving us the championship for the season by 94 points.  Brown Deer finished in 3rd place for the season, 153 points behind us.

Seven of our guys took 20 or more points, and 5 broke 80 on the day.  Gerry McGrath and Jason Zupke took 24 points, Rich Saks and Tom Jardanowski won 23, Mark Cuthbert and Jim Sauceda 22, and Dick Baker 20 to lead the point onslaught.  Honor scores were McGrath and Cuthbert with 73, Saks and Steve Jaeger with 74, and Zupke with 78.  This was Zupke’s first ever 2nd team match and he started out in style on the back nine with birdies on 10 and 11.  Our average net score was a rather astounding 68.8, even with a net 79 in the mix.  On the bright side the net 79 guy did get his sack punched by everyone!

In hole events, Brian Pederson took long putt on number 9, and Zupke took a skin with his birdie on 11.

Our season high point man was Rich Saks with 86 points, capturing the title while playing in just 4 of the 5 events.  Rich took 20 points twice and 23 twice in his 4 matches.  Darrell Frenzel was second with 82 points, Steve Jaeger captured 79, Brian Pederson 77, and Pete Lapp 76 to round out the top 5.

For the season 28 members played at least one match, all winning some points.

Summaries and stats are listed below.  The big spreadsheet with all the scores is attached.

Thanks to everyone who played for the team and special thanks to Second Team Director Brian Pederson who managed this whole thing in exemplary fashion all season.

Jack

End of Season Event on 10/8: 1 Man Scramble - REGISTRATION DEADLINE APPROACHING

Currie Men,
Our final event of the 2016 golf season, as always, is our 1-Man Scramble. The deadline for registering is 9am on 10/3: REGISTRATION PAGE
That being said, if you can’t make it to play we do encourage you to join us after the round in the Currie club house for our season closing meeting where we hand out awards, give some performance accolades, discuss a little club business and then vote on officers for the 2017 season.
We will not have food but you can purchase the typical offerings at the Currie Bar!
Also, the golfing will be an 8am SHOTGUN start so we can all roughly get back to the clubhouse around the same time so no one has to wait too long for the club business to begin.

-----------------------HERE’S OUR DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT---------------------------
Format: One-Man Scramble - Each player gets two extra shots per hole but must pick up at boggie. Can only use one extra shot per shot (example; cannot take three shots at birdie putt if on par 4 green in regulation without using any extra shots). If extra shot is taken then you can chose the better of the two shots to hit your next ball from (aka SCRAMBLE)
Recommended strategy: Hit tee ball in fairway! If you miss the fairway and it is in the trees, walk to your ball and hit a second shot (save your scramble shots) - get the second shot close to the green or back into play! Use your first scramble shot (one of the two extra shots) to hit your second or third shot close to the pin, Use your second scramble shot (two of the two extra shots) on taking two putts at making par or birdie, Key is to attempt to hit fairway on your tee shot or at least give yourself a shot at hitting it near the green.
Flights and Payouts: TBA
Score Cards: Score cards will be provided, Please hand the cards in to Dave Labinski after completing your round. This is a flighted GROSS event so you don't have to worry about any handicaps.

No skins game will be offered since it does not make sense in this format.

Registration Deadline Approaching: CURRIE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

Currie Men,
The registration deadline for our premier event of the season is approaching…the coveted two day, 36 hole, CURRIE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP at our home course; Currie Park “The National!” (winners of each flight get there name on the club championship trophy and bragging rights for a full year!). The registration deadline is 8/1 at 9am, if you haven’t registered please get out there and do so: Club Championship Registration Page

-------NOTE ON TEE TIMES-------EARLY TEE TIMES ARE NOW FULL
Please know our first tee time traditionally starts at 6am on both Saturday and Sunday (low handicaps going out first on Sat and highs going out first on Sun). However, due to a scheduling screw-up on the county’s behalf we have to start our first tee time for the Saturday round at 11am. That being said, in the rare case that someone absolutely could not play in the two-day event without starting earlier on Saturday morning we are offering up a couple tee times earlier (not exactly sure when yet but they would be between 6am and 8am at some point, Dave Labinski will squeeze them in). Dave will also ensure that any golfer going off early is accompanied by another person (not necessarily a golfer) to attest the round. …….AGAIN, THIS EARLY SATURDAY TEE TIME OFFER IS ONLY VALID AS A NECCESSITY AND CAN NOT BE USED IF YOU SIMPLY WOULD JUST LIKE AN EARLIER TEE TIME (please don’t game the system with this offer).

That being said, Chet (Milwaukee County Parks: Golf Services Manager) is donating a ½ barrel of beer to the club on Saturday as an apology for over booking Saturday morning and therefore requiring us to go off at 11am.

First Team at Greenfield Results

Guys,

I first wanted to say thanks again for playing at Greenfield yesterday and also for everyone staying during the 1 1/2 hour rain delay and completing your round.  We ended up with 73 points, which was in 5th place in the Match. Greenfield won the match with 121 points and they have a commanding lead (71 points over Whitanll) heading into the final match.

Ken Collins & Jake Boulware led our team with 13 points and Jim Fossett got 12 points. There were no skins for the Currie guys.

Our 5th (Final) Match of the year is Saturday - Aug 13th at Brown Deer Park G.C.. The tee times are again between 6:30 am and 8:50 am. Please let me know if your available to play. The Ladies Professional Symmetry Golf Event starts the Monday after our Match so Brown Deer will be in great shape.

Thanks!

Captain Jim
