Currie Second Team Wins Greenfield Event, Widens Season Lead

The Currie Second Team won the second event of the season at Greenfield on June 4, taking 244 points to runner up  Brown Deer's 234. Whitnall was 3rd with 217, and Grant 4th with 198.  We also won the first event last month at Dretzka, and our season lead is a solid 70 points over Brown Deer with 3 rounds to go.

Big point winners on the day were Steve Jaeger and Jeff “I got an Eagle” Camosy with 24 each, and Rich Saks, Darrell Frenzel, and Jack Bruss with 20 apiece.  Pete Lapp chipped in with 19.  A full fourteen of our 16 guys managed 12 or more points.

Our medalist was Steve Jaeger with 78.  Phil Levin shot 79, Saks 80, Bruss and Dave Ullenberg 81, and Gerry McGrath and Jeff  “I got an Eagle” Camosy 82.  Jeff’s Eagle was on 18 where he knocked a 3 wood into the hole.  You'll hear about it again for sure, as he will no doubt be mentioning it to anyone within earshot for a long time to come.

A couple of summaries are listed below.

Thanks to the Greenfield crew who did a nice job along with Director Pederson on running the event smoothly, and thanks to everyone who came out to play and make it a successful day for the National team,

The next round will be at Grant on Sunday, June 26.

Jack

First Team at Whitnall Results

Guys,

I first wanted to say thanks again for playing at Whitnall this past Saturday and braving the tough conditions! We did very well and finished 3rd place and just missed 2nd place by 5 points. Great start to the season!!

Jake Boulware led our team with 18 points and I got 15 points.

I will be sending an email out this week to get people for the June 5th match at Dretzka and June 18th at Currie, but you can let me know via email if you can play in either or both!

Thanks!

Captain Jim

Currie Second Team Gets Big Victory at Dretzka in Opening Match

We started the season with a big victory at Dretzka today.  We gathered up 263 points leaving everyone else well behind, Brown Deer and Whitnall tying for second place with 203 points each.  This is the second highest point total we’ve gotten since 2009.  It was a great way to serve notice on the rest of the teams that Currie is back, undeterred by our only loss in 7 years last season.

Eight of our 16 players won 20 or more points, and 13 took 12 or more.  Darrell Frenzel lead the way with 24, and Doug Bowring and Rich Saks were right behind with 23.  Bowring and Mike O’Neil were our medalists with 78, and Steve Jaeger was 3 back at 81.  In individual awards Jim Sauceda took closest to the pin on number 6 and a skin on the same hole.  Brian Pederson had a skin for a birdie on 10, and Jaeger and Gary Zwirlein took the closest to the hole awards on 17 and 4 respectively.  A couple summaries of the results are listed below.

Our next match will be played at the new and improved Greenfield Park on Saturday, June 4.  Several of us will get in a couple of practice rounds at the MCPLA tournament on May 21 and 22.

MCPLA Mid-Am / Senior at Greenfield Park Golf Course

Gents,

The deadline is fast approaching!!!!!!! I have attached the application for this fun event. It is on May 21 and 22 at the newly renovated Greenfield Park Golf Course. I strongly encourage you to check your calendar and support the MCPLA as we need to keep our tournaments going instead of other non-mcpla events. When these tournaments are gone, we will have no one to blame but ourselves as I will not continue to put in tireless hours setting these up only to see other events draw our players.Te deadline for entry is next Friday, May 6th. Please mail them in to me asap.

Bob Freuck
